Enjoyable Inaugural Badminton ACT (BACT) Annual Gala Dinner & Awards Night, 4 December 2021

BACT’s first, hopefully of many more, Annual Gala Dinner and Awards Night was held at the Hellenic Club on 4 December 2021.  It was very well attended, with over 80 people representing 10 BACT clubs.  A number of BACT and Club awards were provided.  It was an enjoyable way to end what was a difficult year, with many clubs still not being able to resume their club sessions following the end of the ACT’s lockdown due to public school cleaning issues.

Southside Badminton will return to play from Tuesday 2 November 2021.

Southside Badminton will return to play from Tuesday 2 November 2021.

Players must be current financial members of Southside Badminton Club.  This will be revised prior to the 2022 calendar year, and is dependent on ACT Government per person capacity rules, advice from our venue owners regarding hall capacity, and on the number of members who have returned to play for the remainder of 2021.

Cancellation of 2021 ACT Open, 21-22 November

In light of the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) decision to not allow community use of their indoor facilities for the remainder of 2021, the ACT Open (already rescheduled from the usual timing in early May until 21-22 November) has been cancelled for 2021.
Badminton ACT has currently scheduled the 2022 ACT Open to be held at the AIS on 30 April – 1 May 2022.

Cancellation of years 7/8 & 9/10 Interschools teams competition, 25 & 29 October

Due to the ACT Government’s decision to extend the ACT lockdown until 15 October and associated disruptions to the resumption of face-to-face learning at schools and external activities, the two InterSchools Competitions scheduled for 25 & 29 October at the ANU have also been cancelled.

Badminton ACT, however, plans on hosting this popular event again in 2022.

2021 ACT Junior Badminton Championship, 6 June

The 2021 ACT Junior Championships was very well attended, particularly the U13 age group.  The tournament was held at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) for the first time and Badminton ACT (BACT) welcomes the support provided by the AIS for badminton in the ACT.  BACT plans to have future tournaments at this wonderful facility.

Over 50 juniors, across all age groups (U13, U15, U17, U19) attended the tournament.  While not events had sufficient numbers in order to proceed (such as some doubles events), six events were held and the numbers participating in the U13s allowed for a ‘Consolation’ singles
