Umpiring is a great way to get involved with competitive badminton without playing. It is also beneficial for players who wish to learn the rules of badminton in detail. The ACTBA offers the Level 1 Umpiring Course or the Junior Umpiring Course for juniors.

Level 1 Umpires Course

The course works towards the Level 1 Accredited Umpire certificate by Badminton Australia. It is aimed at players, teachers, high school students or people who just want to learn. Participants must be 16 years of age at the time of accreditation. Participants are not required to have completed any other courses as a prerequisite for participation in the Badminton Australia (BA) Level 1 Umpire Training program.

The course will consist of theory and practical work. The workload is 4 hours of theory followed by 2 days of practical work. Some pre-course work may be required.

The course content consists of risk management, communication skills and dealing with conflict, officiating better and laws of the game.
