President – Mayur Meshram

I got introduced to Badminton from a very young age in India, growing up playing the sport with my family and with kids in the hood leveraging whatever facilities we could (indoor or outdoor – mind you we had our own version of backyard air-badminton!). We were lucky to access dedicated courts as my father served in the Indian Railways and thankfully the organisation had quite an established infrastructure nationally empowering Railway officers, their families and
young talents to stay fit & healthy thereby advocating highly for general wellbeing. I was fortunate to have not one but two top guns (Srinivas Rao and Alfred) of the sport based in Khurda Road, Orissa, who were always on the look out for the potential young talent, take notice and tap into my innate ability to uplift my game to a competitive level. I got selected for the region when I was 13 and played to be nominated for the State. I moved on to represent my school and then University in my later years. From India, to Australia and from Melbourne to Canberra my journey has always humbled me with the purpose I need to get behind and believe in. Badminton helped me find my identity, helped me express myself, taught me patience, imbibed respect towards the sports and the people involved, and humbled me to embrace the endurance the sport demands. It gave me a purpose in my life! There was no looking back and the rest is history.

Vice-President – Alan Kisbee

Alan is a badminton player who enjoys entering local and interstate competitions. Alan was raised in Adelaide where he first learned to play at the ripe old age of 10. He started competing in weekly club competitions at 16 something he is keen to try to start up in Canberra. After moving to Canberra in 1990 he tried other competitive sports like Indoor Cricket and Paintball, before going back to playing badminton in 2000. With age comes responsibilities and the ability to compete in veterans and master’s competitions. After seeing how well ACT teams do in veteran’s competitions, he volunteered for the Vice President role in an attempt to give something back to the local badminton community and reinvigorate social competitive play in the ACT. Alan currently works for the Australian Taxation Office as an IT Architect.

Secretary – Sheehan Lim

Sheehan is an avid badminton player, referee and BWF umpire. He played badminton his entire career since he was a junior and continued played since. He regularly helps organise and run tournaments, and has travelled internationally for badminton umpiring across the world.

Treasurer – Raymond Kan

Raymond always enjoys playing badminton socially with his friends. He played in the school team when he was young and continued playing for a number of years socially before he migrated to Australia. Raymond is currently working as an audit director at Deloitte Canberra Office.  He has extensive experience in the field of auditing and advisory services for both private and public sector entities.  Raymond’s other interests include social soccer and painting.

Match Secretary – Candy Leong

My badminton journey began around four years ago, when I discovered the joy of playing the sport socially with friends. What started as a way to unwind after work quickly grew into a genuine passion, and I have since become a very active member in the badminton ACT community, regularly playing across various clubs.

Badminton provides the perfect balance to my professional life. Joining badminton social clubs has helped me stay motivated, maintain my fitness, and support my overall wellbeing after long workdays. Beyond the physical benefits, I value the strong sense of connection and camaraderie within the badminton community.

Outside of the court, I work as Finance Executive in banking industry, bringing nearly 12 years of professional experience. With an innate desire to give back, I am committed to supporting and contributing to the badminton community that has given me so much, and I look forward to helping it continue to grow and thrive.
