The 2023 AGM preceded the Annual BACT Dinner & Awards night on 9 December. Representatives from over half of all 21 BACT affiliated clubs attended the meeting. The incoming 2024 Executive Committee included one more of the younger generation of members, with Cassandra Yap taking on the position of Match Secretary; she replaces the retiring Brideen Allen who had been in the role for five years and a member of the BACT Committee since 2010. All other Executive Committee members were reelected and were also joined by six Associate Members who will play a key role in supporting the Executive Committee. All of the AGM meeting papers can be found on the Document Library of the BACT website: 2023 AGM Meeting Documents – ACT Badminton Association (badmintonact.org.au)
The 3rd Annual Dinner and Awards night followed the AGM. This event has now become a firm part of the annual calendar of events. Sixteen of all BACT clubs were represented, with of the order of 150 attendees (including many families which was wonderful to see). A fun time was had by all and a number of BACT, junior and club awards were presented throughout the evening (as well as many lucky door prizes, with the first prize being a badminton racquet). Brideen Allen was provided with the BACT Lifetime Award (photo below) for all her dedicated work for both BACT and her Southside club; we all wish her well in her retirement from the APS next year and her eventual move to the coast. Daniel Akkidasari was provided with the 2023 President’s Award for all his hard work in growing the Capital Juniors Club, which is purely focused on the development of beginner juniors.
Many thanks to all those that attended; Indu Sealey for all her hard work in arranging the event; and to Gungahlin Eastlakes Club for supporting BACT. I am hoping that the 2024 event will be even bigger and better!
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all BACT members and their family and friends.
