U13 Regional Teams Challenge / U13 Australian Championships
13 – 14 January 2017, Altona North, Victoria.
Aline and Cédric made the trip down to Melbourne to compete in the annual U13 carnival, a 2-day events comprising of a team event and an Individuals event.
In the team event, the siblings played with the Combined States team which was made up of players from 3 different territories/states (2 ACT, 1 SA, 4 VIC). The Combined States team finished Runner Up in the Regional Teams Challenge, a great effort by all since the players have never played together previously. The team won the pool by the narrowest of margin (24 points) beating Melbourne Badminton Centre and earning the right to a playoff for the finals. Unfortunately their finals opponents, Badminton Academy of Victoria Team 1 was too strong and the team lost the tie 3-9.
In the Individuals event, Aline missed out on the semis by one point. Cedric made it into the knockout stage but lost to one of the contenders for the Boys Singles title.
A huge thank you to Shuen and Kam for coaching the kids, and Cat-Thy for umpiring the team matches.
