Badminton ACT appoints first junior development officers

The President of Badminton ACT, Olaf Schuermann, is pleased to announce the appointment of Messrs Tai Liang Ko and Xing Huong Goh as co-Junior Development Officers for Badminton ACT.  The appointments are for one year on a casual, contract, basis.  Reflecting the importance of the role, it is the first time that Badminton ACT has appointed people to a paid position.

Their key roles are to develop junior badminton in the ACT, including through: improving the quality of junior coaching in clubs and at schools; support and increase in and out-of-school opportunities for school aged players; plan and organise the deliver of ‘ShuttleTime’ coaching courses as required; build relationships with Badminton Australia and ACT schools in the delivery of coaching and expanding junior badminton in schools; co-ordinate various ACT junior badminton competitions and training camps; and coach and mentor ACT players representing the ACT at various national junior badminton tournaments.

Both Ko and Xing  bring considerable junior coaching experience to the position.  Indeed, Ko already runs Badminton ACT’s only dedicated and very successful junior badminton club, the Northside Juniors, and is very active in coaching  at various schools and in a private capacity.

In welcoming the appointments, the President of Badminton ACT noted that both Ko and Xing will bring a more strategic focus, coordination and planning to junior development right across the age spectrum, from Under 13s to Under 19s.  This will improve the quality of the juniors representing the ACT at various national tournaments.
