Back to badminton (next stage)

The ACT Government has now announced that the Stage 2.2 of the easing of restrictions will commence on Friday, 19 June 2020 (see https://www.covid19.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/1558701/COVID-19-Easing-of-Restrictions-Roadmap-Release-2.0-12-June-2020.pdf).  This will provide for up to 100 people to play at indoor sports centres, subject to the one person per 4sqm rule.

This effectively means that all ACTBA affiliated badminton clubs can resume their social sessions.  However, as some of the facilities that clubs hire are having some issues arranging for the reopening of their venues (largely related to sourcing cleaners), please see any notices individual clubs have placed on this website in relation to the resumption of play or call relevant club contacts to find out the latest information.

All players are reminded that the resumption of full social play at clubs is on the basis of the ‘new normal’ conditions of play, most notably the required hygiene and distancing requirements.  Please be particularly mindful of the 1.5m distancing requirement while waiting for games and use the hand sanitisers provided at each club.  All players are required to meet individual clubs’ COVID-19 Safety Plans and Player Responsibility Lists of behaviour.  Further, you will all be required to formally register your names for each session to enable any contact tracing in the highly unlikely event of a person contracting the virus.  Many clubs will also be initially limiting play at their clubs to members only and may not be able to accept new members.

The ACTBA has also tentatively arranged for the ACT Interclub teams competition to be held on Saturday, 26 September 2020 at Amaroo High School (subject to Government health policies).  This will be a great way for the ACT badminton community to reconnect after all of the challenges over recent months.  Further information will be provided over the coming weeks.
