2018 Australasian Under 17 Badminton Championships

During the April school holidays, Kaleen Juniors travelled to New Zealand for the U17 Team and Individuals championships. Our juniors combined with players from other states to compete in the June Bevan team event. With 10 teams entered in the event, The Territories team achieved their best ranking to date, finishing fifth overall.

2018 ACT Open Update

Due to the large number of players, C and D grade will be held at UC High School Kaleen. Open and B grade will be held at ANU Sport.

Gungahlin Badminton Club New Monday Sessions

The Gungahlin Badminton Club has commenced a new session on Monday nights (7.30-9.30pm) at the recently enlarged and completely refurbished flooring at the Amaroo High School (Katherine Av).  The new gym now has double the number of badminton courts (eight).  All existing GBC players and new players, particularly beginners, are welcome. One court will be set aside for adult beginners, with coaching provided for those interested.  This new GBC session supports the well attended Tuesday and Thursday night sessions at Gungahlin College gymnasium.  For further information on the GBC please see the Club page on this website or call Olaf:

2018 Australian National Championships Expression of Interest

The 2018 Australian National Championships, incorporating the Ede Clendinnen Shield (Team event) and Australian Closed Championships (Individual event), will expected to be held in February 2018. The Championships will be a week long. Expressions of interest close on 21st December 2017. To be eligible, you must be a member of an ACTBA affiliated club. 2017 Australian U19 Championships

This year, we attended the Australian U19 Championships in South Australia. Departing from Canberra on the 7 th July 2017, we arrived in Adelaide to represent the Australian Capital Territory. Our team consisted of Jessica Zhang, Lisa Xing, Zhixuan Sun, Cassandra Yap, Rita Tri, Junfeng Mai, Jordan Huynh, Pascal Souksavat, and the addition of New South Wales players Ricky Tang and Ryan Foo. We were accompanied by our insightful coach Shuen and our wonderful umpire Sheehan. South Australian Badminton Association generously hosted this event by providing us with a hall, along with a cafeteria to help replenish our energy.

2017 Australian Badminton Open

The 2017 Australian Badminton Open is coming to Sydney Olympic Park on the 20th to 25th of June. This tournament is one of twelve Super Series tournaments held around the world and it will attract the world’s best players. 2017 NBC Australian Badminton Masters

To all the 40 years and over players out there, the 2017 NBC Australian Badminton Masters will be held on the 23rd – 25th of June at Sydney Olympic Park. There will be singles, doubles and combined age doubles. For more information check out their entry form or enter online.

2017 Sudirman Cup

The 2017 Sudirman Cup is coming to the Gold Coast! It is the world badminton mixed team championship held every two years. The championships will be held on May 21st to May 28th. 2017 Australia National Championships and Ede Clendinnen Shield

The ACT sent a team to participate in the 2017 Australia National Championships and Ede Clendinnen Shield team event held in Melbourne in February. Anthony Joe held his title by winning the men’s singles event for the second consecutive year. The ACT combined with the Northern Territory to create the “Territories” team and finished 7th after narrowly beating Tasmania 7-6 in the final match.

U13 Regional Teams Challenge / U13 Australian Championships

U13 Regional Teams Challenge / U13 Australian Championships
13 – 14 January 2017, Altona North, Victoria.
Aline and Cédric made the trip down to Melbourne to compete in the annual U13 carnival, a 2-day events comprising of a team event and an Individuals event.

In the team event, the siblings played with the Combined States team which was made up of players from 3 different territories/states (2 ACT, 1 SA, 4 VIC). The Combined States team finished Runner Up in the Regional Teams Challenge, a great effort by all since the players have never played together previously. The team won

We are looking for expressions of interest for the 2017 Australasian Under 17 National Championships (individual event) and the June Bevan Trophy (team event) held in Launceston, Tasmania.

Summary

This is the final year for Pascal in the U15 championship which started in 2013 (Sydney), 2014 (Launceston), 2015 (Adelaide) and lastly Darwin. He has matured as a competitor and was nominated the team captain.  He played 3 matches in each team tie and played pivotal matches to help the team achieve its final standing. He achieved sound results in the Individuals events and was ranked 8th

Several ACT players combined with players from NSW and NT took part in the 2016 Ede Clendinnen Shield to form “The Territories” Team.
