2020 ACTBA Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The 2020 AGM was held at Kaleen High School on 13 December, with a large number of affiliated clubs represented.  One key outcome was agreement for a paid (on a casual, contract basis), Junior Development Officer/Pathway Manager position that draws together all of the great work being undertaken on junior development/coaching in many ACTBA clubs and schools.  Indeed, on the latter, 15 school PE teachers were trained in ‘Shuttle Time’ over recent weeks to enable even more teachers to coach basic badminton at their schools.

The AGM also approved the nomination of Walter Lim for a Life Member Award for his services for nearly twenty very active years to both the ACTBA and badminton more broadly, particularly junior development.  He was ACTBA Vice President from 2011-2017; formed the CGS Badminton Club in 2009, with a particular focus on junior development; started the then CGS Open, held at the school from 2011 – 2019 (now renamed Brindabella Cup Challenge); and actively supported various fund raising activities for junior development (e.g. Bunnings BBQs, sale of chocolates).  The ACTBA community of clubs thanks warmly all the hard work of Walter over many years and hopes that he continues to play the sport for many more.

Photos of the AGM and of Walter Lim being presented with his Life Member Award by ACTBA President, Olaf Schuermann, are below.

The AGM also approved the continuation of Olaf Schuermann as President; Alan Kisbee as Vice President; Raymond Kam as Treasurer; and Robynne Mah as Secretary for 2021.  Sheehan Lim takes over from Brideen Allen as Match Secretary (although the latter will still be assisting at tournaments next year).

We wish all clubs and members a safe and happy Christmas and New Year holiday period and hope that 2021 will be better than 2020, which we all found very challenging.
